Ruth Fazal was born in England, and began her musical studies on the piano and the violin. Ruth won a scholarship to study the violin and composition at Dartington College of Arts, and from there, went on to study the violin at the Guildhall School of Music in London

After graduating with honours from the Guildhall School of Music, Ruth won a French Government Scholarship to study the violin in Paris with Nell Gotkovsky.

Since arriving in Toronto in 1975, Ruth has performed with all of the major orchestras in the city, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet, as well as being actively involved in many chamber music ensembles. She has been frequently heard performing on CBC radio.

Ruth is currently concertmaster of all three orchestras of the Mississauga Symphonic Association, including the acclaimed string orchestra Sinfonia Mississauga, as well as concertmaster of the Elora Festival Orchestra, and The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Orchestra. She is also first violinist of the Lorien String Quartet, and runs a chamber music series in Toronto, called 'New Streams'

Also a Christian singer/songwriter, and an accomplished keyboard player, Ruth  travelled extensively across North America and Europe as well as South Africa and Israel, leading worship in churches and at conferences. Ruth has recorded 20 albums of her songs and of her instrumental music.

Feb 2002 saw the premiere performance and recording of Ruth's first classical composition The Seven Last Words of Christ -a concerto for spoken voice and violin with orchestra. In November 2003, Ruth's most recent composition, Oratorio Terezin, was given it's premiere, at The Toronto Centre for the Arts, with a European tour in 2004 and Israel tour in 2005.  In November 2006 another performance took place in Toronto, and in February 2007 in New York, at the Tilles Center on Long Island and at Carnegie Hall on February 9th 2007.

Ruth's most recent composition, 'Awakening' was recently recorded by the Slovak National Orchestra and Choirs.
